Are Chiropractors qualified to take X-rays?
Yes, they train in both the taking of X-rays (radiography), and the reading of X-rays (radiology).
Will Treatment Hurt?
Manipulation/adjustment is not normally painful, sometimes trigger points in the muscles can be uncomfortable whilst being released. Post treatment soreness can also sometimes occur, but your chiropractor will advise how best to reduce this.
Are there any risks?
As with any type of treatment, there are risks, HOWEVER Chiropractic has far fewever risks than many other treatments for your problem, and Chiropractors are trained to assess each individual as to whether they have any contra-indications to treatment. If there are contra-indications present, the Chiropractor will either refer the patient to the appropriate health-care provider for their condition, or adapt their treatment to take into account the risk factors present, whilst always making sure the patient is aware and understands the situation.
How long will it take?
This will depend on five main things:
• Your particular condition
• How severe it is
• How long you have had it
• Your response to treatment (always individual)
• How much of your Chiropractors advice you follow.
Can I have chiropractic after surgery?
Probably, your chiropractor will assess you and usually take X-ray films if you have had prior surgery to determine what can be done to help and which areas are to be avoided. They can also help with post-surgical exercise, advice and rehabilitation.
There was no pain after the accident, why does it hurt now?
Pain from whiplash doesn't always happen straight after a trauma; often your body can compensate in the short-term for injuries and it is not until weeks or even months later that the pain develops.
Can chiropractic treat newborn?
Yes, the sooner your baby is checked, the sooner any injury or stresses form the birth can be dealt with safely and gently.
Can chiropractic treat elderly?
Yes, more gentle techniques are available for more fragile joints. Degenerated joints are sometimes the result of a poorly distributed load on them, chiropractic will help to restore normal joint function.
Can chiropractic be given during pregnancy?
Yes. Safe, gentle techniques will be used, and exercises often given.
Aren't good diet and exercise enough?
They certainly help, but cannot always deal with an existing problem in the same way as Chiropractic. Chiropractic targets individual problems that are reducing your bodies efficiency.
What is the difference between Chiropractic and Osteopathy?
The differences between these two practices are subtle, and they for the most part, tend to treat similar conditions. Basic differences are in diagnosis, techniques of treatment and the fact that Chiropractors are trained to take and read X-rays.
What about just taking painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs?
These can dull your pain, but it may well return as they do not necessarily deal with the cause. They may also have side-effects.
