World Federation of Chiropractic 1999:
"Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculo-skeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.''
By restoring normal function, chiropractors can play a major part in relieving disorders and any accompanying pain/discomfort arising from:
We are lucky at Lifestyle Chiropractic to have practitioners available who deal with the different aspects of dysfunction, thus allowing a comprehensive programme of care.
It is often a combination of these that results in pain being experienced by an individual.
The human body has an inherent ability to regulate itself for optimum function, (homeostasis), and thus its natural state is to be healthy and pain free.
However, particularly in todays society, our lifestyles can be very stressful, and this can lead to dysfunction, such dysfunction is thought to decrease the ability of our bodies to deal with future stressors, which ultimately can lead to a decline in general health. This theory, although seen and appreciated by many our of patients, does not yet have sufficient clinical evidence to support it.
The nervous system controls and co-ordinates all functions in the body and ''its structure and activities are inseparably interwoven with every aspect of our lives, physical, cultural, intellectual." (Grays Anatomy, 3rd edition.)
It is via these known phenomenon that Chiropractic can have a positive effect on health and well-being. By removing the dysfunction, and therefore the inteference to the nervous system. Such Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to allow change to our bodies physiology, therefore helping the body to heal itself.
To gain full advantage of the well-being aspect of Chiropractic requires a longer/on going programme of care than pure symptomatic/pain relief. At Lifestyle Chiropractic health assessment questionnaires are used to determine the amount of benefit gained by following this programme, these questionnaires are widely used in the medical/health profession.
Lifestyle Chiropractic are pleased to announce they are the proud winners of the PPQM award 2009-2011.
This award is presented by the College of Chiropractors to Chiropractic clinics, to recognise excellence in terms of meeting patient expectations. Practices are required to demonstrate that they meet patient expectations in a wide range of areas, including:
